Wellbeing is a practice – it’s an art of deep listening into our true needs, desires and inspirations to live meaningful lives aligned with the natural world around us.
This is intrinsically our natural state of being and various things can let us feel off track and out of balance. Whether these root in adjustable factors like poor nutrition, pollution, a lack of education or in longstanding trauma, disease and disconnection from ourselves – to bring ease into experiences of unrest is the most virtuous responsibility we own.
It’s said that man will have a thousand wishes, until he is unwell.
Then he will only have one.
The mind itself has a natural ability to be at rest and become tranquil. This may be difficult to believe as it is normally quite stirred and turbulent as a result of
continuous thought patterns. Yet once we ground it into the present we get a glimpse of its potential for a quieter, yet alert awareness of ourselves, our surrounding and the relationship between the two. With practice and gentle diligence this will become a more natural state to inhabit and brings with it the ability to discern for a better living and respond accordingly.
When we learn to truly tend to ourselves we understand to tend to our natural world, to care for her and in return be taught and nurtured by her.
In turning to nature and listening – not only with the ears on our head, but with the receptivity of our being – we can experience something so innate that it leaves us both awestruck and deeply satisfied. Every intelligent cell standing ajar, excitedly embracing the harmonizing symphony of feeling in sync with the
natural orchestra.
Graced by her presence we shall offer her our undivided attention and receive the lessons, the healing, the spectacle, the peace, the phenomena she
eloquently portrays.
Be still here.
Can you notice a wind picking up?
Can you pause in your step – and step onwards lightly?
Can you breathe deeply with the rising light, can you let the fading
sun enter your eyes?
Can you hold your gaze on the horizon and not
be tempted to detract?
Everything you see has a birth, a life and a death.
In a continuous cycle of restoration we abide to the same laws.
May we heed them with reverence for the well-being of all.
In my honest experience of the
practice I’ve come to the recognition that the more fine-tuned and
keenly aware of the subtleties in
our movements, the more we may consider it as advanced – and that
this has very little to do with the external expression of a pose.
The state of contemplation and
reflection naturally gifts itself to
us in various moments of life.
These are usually times when some
part of a journey is complete, in an experience that profoundly lingers in
us or in a period of intensity that requires us tune in a little deeper.
