Yoga

In my honest experience of the practice I’ve realised that the more fine-tuned and keenly aware we are in our movements,
the more we may consider it as advanced – and that this has very little to do with the external
expression of a pose.

I begin in observation – sensing and feeling the body and its energy. Creating awareness of the natural breath, sensation and the quality of the internal experience.
Scanning the body from the ground up – from the heels, femur, sacrum, scapula, spine & cranium; noticing any asymmetries and looking at the
height of the lumbar curve.
Placing an emphasis on neuromuscular re-education by slowing down, tracking the inner experience and gaining sensorimotor awareness (interoception).

I allow my awareness to move from fore-brain to mid-brain. Sensing the vestibular system (in vertebrates the inner ear) which is the sensory system governing our sense of balance and spatial orientation for the purpose of coordinating movement with balance.  Strategically resetting the autonomic nervous system and initiating organic release thereof.

The sequencing itself may be nothing too complicated, but rather specific and efficient. Sensitive to the neck, orientation of gaze & a gentle yet directed stimulation of
the optic nerve.
Noticing when attention ‘checks out’ and gently reeling it back in, enhancing cognitive awareness (experiencing the body in space). Softening the eyes by not piercing or penetrating the surrounding, but maintaining a receptive focus. Jaw releases are central to a balanced fascia system and play a major role in directing energy away from the jaw where we tend to hold and grip and to divert that energy into the abdomen and extremities. Diaphragmatic breathing and accessing the vagus nerve that plays a major role in organ health and in balancing the autonomic nervous system. Not working the ‘edge’ too much and being sensible to the connective tissue as well as being soft on the joints. This is most indicative by not tucking, stacking, stressing or pushing the body.

Finally, finding a well balanced medium between spaciousness and stability in the body. Being mindful of fascia elasticity and our individual neuroplasticity (ability of the brain to change continuously and brain activity associated with a given function). Thus considering the mental & emotional capacity respective to physicality.

I intend to cultivate and curate a sensible, individualized mind-body connection and therefore a vibrant and joyous experience.
